Art Show Submission

So I entered a painting to a local art show a while ago. It was for all of North West Michigan and they only accepted 40 artists. So... I didn't make the cut. Which is sad.

But that's okay... I'll just have to keep entering other shows!

First let's show off some in-progress shots!

Fun fact, you can't use permanent marker (sharpies specifically) underneath acrylic paint. I knew you couldn't use it on TOP because there's some paint thinner in the ink that causes the tip/nib to get all clogged up and weird. But the acrylic won't paint OVER it either. So that's good to know for future reference.

I had quite a bit of trouble getting all of the Sharpie covered up. I ended up having to cover alot more with black paint rather than the white I planned on.

And here's the final product!!

But actually, it turned out really nicely! I'm actually pretty glad that I had to do the black instead of white background.

I still have to finish the sides of the canvas and get some hangers or whatever to put the painting up on the wall.

AV wanted a little raccoon. I wanted to do something a little more realistic, but that didn't happen obviously.

AV and I went to a glass blowing class today! So I had to draw my paperweight on it's little metal stick thingy that I've already forgotten the name of.

But here it is!

I hope it's awesome when it arrives :D

We've made it into September!

We're in Knoxville (which I LOVE!) got drinks tonight at a bar. This is what mine looked like!

Regrettably, it tasted a lot like Tang. All I could think of was those stupid orangutangs in space suits... Does anybody else remember those ad campaigns?

I'm doing an Art Show*!

I found out that the local art institute is doing a juried Art Show. And I'm going to do something for it!

I'm going to do a painting and I have to submit a photo of it for consideration by September 22. If I get in the grand prize is a THOUUUUSAND DOOOOLLARSSSS.

MORE GRIFFINS!!!!!

Blackberry won a race and is rubbing it in Chip's face.

ALSO. I found out that the local art institute is having an art show! Entries are due by September 22 and I'M GOING TO DO IT.

This is what I am going to paint! I love photography and AV and I have a whole horde of vintage film cameras so I'm going to paint a whole slew of them!

It's going to be tough to finish up in time, but I'M GOING TO DO IT.

I'M NOT EVEN TRYING TO HYPE MYSELF UP FOR THIS AT ALL.

Bunnies!

When I was like three one of my cousins gave me a stuffed Peter Rabbit. I LOVE HIM. I carried him around 24-7 for ages. He also came with me to college and to study abroad.

I've been looking for another one (not as a replacement, as an addition to) and AV and I found some on E-Bay! So I ordered one and when she showed up...

We didn't read the description!! The new bunny is like half the size of Hoppy!!!

So cute, but also disappointing since I thought she'd be the same size...

We're building a garage at our house. As soon as we're done, I have a whole list of projects to do!

We have little matching dressers we use as bedside tables. I want to paint them black with white pin-stripes. They'll look like this when I'm done!

Apparently I did a terrible job scanning things...

I also bought a little desk to use as a sewing table! I'm pretty stoked because it has drawers so I can keep everything under control! I don't know if I want to paint it white or if I want to keep it with the original wood grain. I was thinking of labeling the drawers or painting some fish on it. Who knows?? The possibilities are only limited by my laziness haha

The first sketch today is an adjustable wrench. I bought it at a garage sale for like a quarter. It's made in the USA! CRAZY! Also, AV took it to work and got it all cleaned up for me :D Now it's all shiny and new!!

Now I need to build some stuff I think. Or possibly just open some paint tubes....

Next is another drawing of John Henry. This is more of the style that I'd like him to be.

The caption reads "John Henry always wanted a pet."

I drew a picture of my house today :D :D

We're building a garage right now and I'm hoping that we can paint the house this summer still too. It's currently a weird olive green with red window frames and a red roof. I hate it >_<

I want to paint it white instead. Then it'll be red, white, and blue!!

I almost forgot... I also drew a giraffe today!

I LOVE "vintage" cameras. You know, back when you had to use FILM in them??

We have somewhere between 10 and 20 of them now; we used them for centerpieces in our wedding!
  

This one is one of my favorites, it's a Kodak Brownie Starflash and it's actually in pretty good condition! Well, probably not that good, I don't think it would actually take photos anymore... Maybe, but it needs some work.

Remember the sketch I did yesterday?

I refined it today :D

It's a compass rose with a big "N" in the middle for our last name! I'm still going to work on it a bit, and if it turns out well, I'm going to see if I can get some vinyl stickers made up to stick on the kayaks!

I also drew some fantastic ancient egyptian artifacts. They're 100% genuine*!

I bought some african violets to put on the kitchen table instead of having cut flowers (since certian cat children tend to dump them over anyways) so I had to draw them!

They're a really pretty dark purple :D They look a lot like these!
