Art Show Submission

So I entered a painting to a local art show a while ago. It was for all of North West Michigan and they only accepted 40 artists. So... I didn't make the cut. Which is sad.

But that's okay... I'll just have to keep entering other shows!

First let's show off some in-progress shots!

Fun fact, you can't use permanent marker (sharpies specifically) underneath acrylic paint. I knew you couldn't use it on TOP because there's some paint thinner in the ink that causes the tip/nib to get all clogged up and weird. But the acrylic won't paint OVER it either. So that's good to know for future reference.

I had quite a bit of trouble getting all of the Sharpie covered up. I ended up having to cover alot more with black paint rather than the white I planned on.

And here's the final product!!

But actually, it turned out really nicely! I'm actually pretty glad that I had to do the black instead of white background.

I still have to finish the sides of the canvas and get some hangers or whatever to put the painting up on the wall.

Cheers!

I found out that the local art institute is doing a juried Art Show. And I'm going to do something for it!

I'm going to do a painting and I have to submit a photo of it for consideration by September 22. If I get in the grand prize is a THOUUUUSAND DOOOOLLARSSSS.

More Miniature Paintings!

I am working on some free artwork for my friends, and I just finished TWO more paintings today!

The first is for my cousins who wanted a fairy like those of Cicely Mary Barker. I'm not really sure I captured the same spirit of Cicely Barker's fairies....

She's a dandelion fairy!

The second painting is for one of my high school friends. She told me she loves my creature drawings and since her son will be old enough to appreciate them soon, she'd like one!

So of course, I had to oblige!

Future Construction Worker

I have to find one of those dump trucks before I have kids! It's the Tonka Dump Truck, but when I was a kid they were all metal. Which meant that you could sit in them and race down the driveway. MY FUTURE CHILD NEEDS THIS.

I just see this griffin making engine noises as he pushes his blocks around :D

Cheers!!

PS. If you're interested in a painting, I can make that happen :D
Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do!

Free Miniature Paintings!

I asked my Facebook friends if any of them would be interested in some free artwork! I want to do more artwork but I don't want to make stuff just to shove under the bed or into the closet. So, I figured this would be a good way to branch out!

A couple of people responded (including one of my cousins) and I've finished the first piece!

One of my high school friends requested a painting of the George Washington Bridge in New York in an impressionistic style!

This is what I came up with:

Acrylic on 7x5 inch art board

I'm not sure it's particularly "impressionist" but, good first attempt?

I found a photo to reference here. So as you can see, no, the city's not supposed to be on fire ;)

Fish Shoes

The weather has finally gotten nice enough that I could get some good photos of the Koi shoes I painted back in February!

I still have to put the clear sealant on the fish but the weather hasn't been cooperating, it's been too cold or damp to go out and spray paint.

I also did some baby fish shoes!

These guys have little goldfish on them!

So of course I had to take some photos with the baby and daddy shoes together!!

It's like a whole school!

KOI SHOES!

My first big project of the year!!

I finally got to work on AV's koi shoes! I've been dragging my feet because I didn't know what to put on them.

I wanted to do a tattoo style koi but I'm not great at that style so I ended up going a little more realistic.

Virgin shoes!

Koi sketched in marker

FINISHED!!

I still need to seal the images with spray paint. It's too cold out right now to do it though, so I don't know when I'll be able to get these all finished up :(

I'll still have to do some more "pro style" photos so I can put these guys up over at Little Red Shoes!

How I did it:
Free handed koi from reference photos
Acrylic paint
Eventually will be sealed with clear spray paint

Cheers!

Fairy Tale Princess Dress-up

Last summer I picked up a little white purse and a pair of girl's red dress shoes at Goodwill. I was planning to make a dress-up set but I just never got around to it.

Fast forward a year and I finally had the time and drive to do it! Presenting the Fairy Tale Princess Dress-up Set! Both the shoes and purse are blue, purple, and pink with white stars and a lovely silver sheen. If I had a kid I would dress them in these things all the time!

When You Wish Upon a Star!

If you have a little girl with size 10W (I don't know what this means?) feet, I have a pair of adorable shoes for her!! These would look so so cute with a little frilly white dress :D

Cheers,
Red

How I did it:
Find a pair of shoes. Fake leather works best.
Paint them with thin coats of acrylic paint.
Stuff the inside with newspaper and spray the outsides with clear spraypaint (3+ coats)
Let dry at least 3 days (to get the tackiness and paint smell out).
Wear them and be awesome!

Show Me Shoes!

I'm currently working on two pairs of shoes, a pair of little girl's shoes and a pair of heels. I don't have any photos of them right now, so instead I'll share photos of shoes I did in the past!

Check out some of the shoes I've made!
