Today, AV requested a wolpertinger!

AV and I saw one of these guys when we were in Telluride a few years ago. We wanted to buy it (they're supposed to bring good luck if you put them in your house), but it was too expensive and we were afraid we'd break it on the 30+ hour bus ride back to school... So, we're still wolpertinger-less :(

The second drawing for today is Turrin. He's another character from waaaay back in high school! I accidentally cut off the top of his head when I scanned the page...

Just a little group of bats today. Swoop swoop!

There are bats hibernating in our house right now. I heard them moving around the other day. I was really hoping it was just ice sliding around on the roof but ice doesn't slide upwards, nor does it stop moving when you tap the walls :/

We'll be putting bat houses up in the yard this summer... Maybe we can get these guys to move out!

Today's sketch is actually going to be posted... TODAY! Personal best!!

I think I'm going to try to do a series on griffins with poems :)

If you were a griffin, what would you do?

I'd build a skyscraper, out of pine cones and glue.

This guy is actually number three, remember this guy? He's number two.

Number one is the griffin on a tricycle :) I found the original griffin with a bike but it didn't scan very well... I'll have to try again later.

When we got back home the other day I looked in my fish tank and only saw one of my fish. I figured the other one was sleeping and I didn't want to turn the lights on and scare him.

As it turned out, he wasn't sleeping.... He was doing a less "alive" type of activity. I think he must have been sick or something because the other fish is still alive and healthy looking.

My fish are almost two years old, so I was pretty upset that one of them turned belly-up :(

All I can say is: Good luck in that giant ocen in the sky, Dinner.

I have a sketch of a griffin on a tricycle... but I can't find it (it's from last year or so).

BUT. Because of this poem/picture combo, I also have this excellent specimen:

I practiced drawing birds today! I borrowed a big book on birds from the library, it was pretty awesome. It claims to have every bird in North America in it, and if so, there are some pretty bad-ass birds on this continent.

From this excellent book.

After I did a couple of birds and determined that they are not exactly my forte, I also did this one:

She has tattoos! She's at the beach! She's a bad mamajama!

Clearly I need to work more on my bird anatomy and I need to be less excited about the summer being that it is still January and is blizzardy :/

Today is fish-flavored!

I bought a pair of Airwalks for AV a few weeks ago, they're pretty retro so they've got a nice big area for painting on! They look somewhat like this:

His have a lot less detail on them, they're just grey and white.

And I'm going to paint them with some koi!

This little fishy was drawn on the same page as yesterday's sketch and I did a terrible job of fitting it in the area. That's why there's a huge gap on the tail... there's a leg there in my notebook... oops...

When I finished that guy I realized he was too small so I did a SECOND fishy!

This little fishy got colored! I think this is going to be how I'm going to do the shoes, squiggly colors :D

Today's sketch is a little bit of a cop-out.
He's just a little puppy-dragon. These guys are my "I don't know what to draw" sketches.

Here's another puppy-dragon from last year:

And here's one from even earlier than that!

Clearly I have a thing for furry, horned, winged dragons... Or maybe it's just the same dragon... You decide.

I think it's just a whole breed of them. I call them.... "Furry wing horns".... On second thought, maybe somebody else should name them. What would YOU call this breed of dragon? (They're based off of Chinese/asian style dragons.)

But on the second I also did some sewing! I made a fabric flower pin! I found directions for these guys online last year. They're super simple and look really beautiful.

The photo uploaded sideways for some reason and I have no clue how to fix it :(

This year I've resolved to do at least one art project/activity/sketch per day. So the goal is to have 366 (this year's a leap year!) sketches by the end of the year. Of course, I also have a ton of other projects started from last year and I want to get all those finished as well. Hopefully it'll be a productive year!

It is snowing, blustry, and cold today, so I have a little wintery friend to usher in 2012!
